Recently, the Mason Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Matthew Steele, associate litigation attorney, to fill the board seat left vacant after last month’s death of a fellow member. Steele was one of 15 candidates to submit his name for the position.
In a released statement Steele said “I am so honored to serve this community, and am very moved to be filling the seat held by Mr. Odell– who meant so much to so many students and families”.
“I hope to present a fresh set of outside eyes to the challenges facing a leading suburban school system, and look forward to working with the board and administration to ensure that we maximize student achievement and instructional excellence in a world of ever-dwindling state support and resources.”
Steele will serve for two years, and the seat will be up for re-election in November 2013.
